Iâm very happy to work on this project with five other young curators and researchers from different institutions. Our exhibit, Erste Klasse Rassismus (First school class racism), explores racism in Stuttgart, showing both its history and how it still affects people today.
â Because the topic is heavy, Iâve used my playful illustrations to add a lighter touch for the audience. In some pieces, Iâve flipped traditional ideasâlike showing âwhiteâ elements in bright colors, to offer a new view. In others, only white figures are shown speaking and sharing their thoughts, while people of color (PoC) are shown as silent observers, with just their eyes open to âacceptâ what they see. Through these illustrations, I hope to help people think about racial issues from a new perspective. DEUTSCHE Version unten My illustration is once again featured online on the "Virtual Illustrators Wall" of the "Bologna Children's Book Fair." You can find my page directly here For this illustration, I present "Wimmel-Bologna." The image showcases various, un-hidden places and elements that show the character of Bologna. Alternatively, you can also find it under the category "Main Page - Europe - Germany". This year the Wall will be running until October. Other coming Comic festival worldwide this year: Central Vapeur Strasbourg https://centralvapeur.org/festival/ 24th April - 19th May Comic Invasion Berlin https://comicinvasion.de/ 11st May - 12nd May Comic-Salon Erlangen https://www.comic-salon.de/de 30th May - 2nd Juni Stuttgarter Comictage https://comicjuju.de/ 25th October - 27th October (I’m in a festival team. :)) Before Christmas Eve, I want to share my exciting journey at the Angoulême Comic Festival this year. The festival in 2024 will take place from the 25th to the 28th of January (check their official website here) From my experience, I can confidently say that this event is worth visiting every 1 or 2 years. The festival sprawls across the entire city, featuring comics and illustrations integrated seamlessly like street art (distinct from other countries). Helpful Tips and Tricks: 1. Traveling by Train: Getting a train is very easy and economical. Angoulême is conveniently located near Bordeaux. I personally took a TGV from Stuttgart to Paris (about 3 hours) and then a direct local train to the city. 2. French: 99% of the event is conducted in French (despite its "international scale"), Google Translate can really help you . However, if you know French, everything gets smoother! So you can fully engage with the exhibitions and explore newly published books from French publishers. 3. Culinary Exploration: Don't miss trying Picon beer – It was my first time experiencing this unique French beer and I love it! 4. Weather Preparations: Be mindful of the weather in January, which can be challenging. Bring essentials like a scarf and gloves, especially since you may have to wait in line outside various exhibition venues. (I was waiting in a line outside for 3 hours and for sure, after that it's not good. :/) Now, go ahead and enjoy your time at the festival! Voila! :) #journeyingermayha
https://www.bdangouleme.com/ This was my first time in Lucerne and at Fumetto. 😄 In April, I was thrilled that my comic strip "Same Same but Different" was exhibited at the Fumetto Comic Festival in Lucerne. Fumetto is a classic comic festival in Switzerland, similar to others in European countries like Angoulême (France), Bologna Children's Book Fair (Italy), and Salon Erlangen (Germany). This year also marked my first visits to Angoulême and the Bologna fair. I will write about both events later. For Fumetto, I decided to showcase some of my recent stories along with some fresh ones that the audience could see for the first time at the festival. And, of course, there was a Live Mural on the window display! My work was located at DQ Solutions. Not only did I visit other works by wonderful artists and illustrators, but it was also awesome to connect with fellow artists and fans at the festival. I will write a bit about this and some parts of Lucerne in Fumetto part 2
Nice Comic festivals to visit: Angoulême (France) Bologna Children's Book Fair (Italy) Salon Erlangen (Germany) Stuttgart Comictage (Germany) Comic Invasion Berlin (Germany) Hamburger Comic festival (Germany) For Fumetto, I'd like to share my experience participating in the festival. In this blog post, I'll take you on a journey through the city, showcasing where I was during the festival and highlighting some outstanding works and exhibitions from various artists this year 2023. PS:
In April, I had the incredible opportunity to showcase my art at the 7th Artwalk event in Stuttgart. This year has been nothing short of fantastic, and I'm excited to share the highlights of my participation in this vibrant artistic celebration. Here is about me on the Artwalk website. The Artwalk concept is a unique blend of creativity and community, where artists like myself get to display their works in shops, restaurants around Tübingerstr. and in the St. Maria Church. I had the pleasure of being matched with Gelateria Kaiserbau, a famous ice cream shop near Marienplatz. On that day my idea is drawing on window displays about ice-cream: ingredients and the word "ice-cream" in different languages. As I worked, people waiting in line had the chance to witness my creative process and also can talk with me! On the other side were some of my recent works: "Finding Cat in a Labyrinth '' previously featured at BKKIF2022, and a collection of Riso-Print posters and stickers.
I highly recommend visiting Gelateria Kaiserbau. With over 15 exquisite flavors with a quality. Yes, their price is not budget-friendly but it is worth it! When you compare it to the other ice-cream shop in Stuttgart. The other one I recommend “Vana-Eis”. Stay tuned for more updates on my artistic journey. ----- Good news! Ich freue mich, bekannt zu geben, dass dieses Bild bald als ein echtes Stuttgarter Produkt erhältlich sein wird. :) Ob ein Poster, Druck oder Puzzle? Hmm..... Stay Tuned! :D Am 8. Juli. im Hof "Johannesstraße 72" 14-19h :)
This year my work was exhibited in this fair. Such a great honor! :) But..... somehow I realised that I couldn't be to finish my idea, to express my inspiration. Let see what I could do from far away. PS: Thank you internet and deutschepost. I feel so grateful after I shared my idea to my sister. And it's pretty done like I want (yeah! she's also in design area, so... a kind of easy btw). In this blog I would like to share behind the scene more than just the final work.
